On July 3 there is a day called Plastic Free Day.
This day is held because environmental organisations around the world want us to reduce plastic waste. plastic bags may seem like a grocery shopping convenience, but they also put a massive strain on the environment. It’s like the free plastic toys they sometimes offer you at the shops. You shouldn’t take them even when offered because it’s encouraging plastic waste.
Plastic was invented in 1960 and began getting more popular and soon mass-produced after the second world war. Five years later, in 1965 the plastic bag was invented. Plastic bags were welcomed by humanity with open arms because they were convenient, versatile, cheap and sanitary.
But today in the 21st century, our environment is dying because we began using plastic bags. Why don’t we stop using plastic bags, and use reusable material bags? That’s why they have reusable bags for sale at your local shopping centre. Some places also have a borrow bag scheme.
Personally, I think every day should be a Plastic Bag Free Day.
