Did you know that FDPS raised a record breaking $28 000 at this year’s Colour Fun Run? All the money donated is going towards the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, one of the school’s most crucial and favourable programs for FDPS students.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKG) is a program our school has newly introduced and has been run in the garden and on Thursdays in the staffroom.

This beloved program is designed to bring kids and cooking together with a focus on the importance of healthy nutritious food.

The Program runs over two weeks and is split into two sessions, the Garden session and the Kitchen session. During the Garden session, Mr Sharp takes us around the school’s beautiful garden, picking herbs such as rosemary to put on the different foods we make. The Kitchen session is when we get the opportunity to learn how to cook and make healthy foods. “My favourite food we made was the Chinese Dumplings,” said Mitchell.

We spoke to some colour run and SAKG, planners and experts, for their opinion about this.

“Some kids don’t get the opportunity to cook at home, so here we give them proper instruction and guidance,” said Mr Sharp, our schools head chef behind the program.

“We started preparing in March, so it’s been about six months that we have been preparing for the Colour Fun Run,” said Kate, one of the P&C planners for the event.

“My favourite part is seeing all of the children get so excited on the Colour Fun Run day” she added.

This new program has opened up many opportunities that shouldn’t be taken for granted. The program teaches all years a range of life skills from gardening to cooking in the kitchen. This new program is truly loved by FDPS students and we can’t wait to see future opportunities this program will bring.
