I have wanted to move to Thailand since Year 3, and now I get to. YAY! Me and my family have a small house in Chiang Mai, a medium-sized city in Thailand. I have one friend in Thailand since I haven’t lived there for long. But one friend is enough for me, considering that I’m extremely introverted.
My mother has gotten a job at Chiang Mai University, which is why we’re moving. My mother is a professor in anthropology, as was my father before he retired. I come from a family of scientists, doctors and anthropologists. My father is going to build a house on a plot of land that we have in Pong Noi, to fill his days considering that he no longer works.
Thailand follows the American timetable, so I will be starting school in August. I won’t have finished all of Year 6, only half. So, the school that I’m going to had to check my academic reports, to see if I should redo Year 6, or just start Year 7.
During the interview with the school, the headmaster said that I was academically capable of starting in Year 8 (I feel like the only reason he said that was because I had gotten a distinction in ICAS…). I also had to do an admissions test, to see if I was even smart enough to go to that school. It’s an exclusive, private school. So if you don’t pass the test, then you aren’t accepted.
The best part about moving is probably the change in atmosphere. Never mind, the change of atmosphere is great, but the school library is better! The headmaster said that they had over 40,000 books in the school library, and that’s just in the senior block!
In case you didn’t already catch on; I’m a bibliophile. Bibliophile has a Latin origin and means ‘book lover’, and I only know that because I read a book about it… Wow, I am such a bibliophile. Or nerd, as many others would put it. I don’t really get the reference though, why would someone smart be named after candy?
I will miss all of my Sydney friends. Even if I’ve never even talked to you, I’ll probably still miss you. Darlo PS has been my school since before I can even remember, and leaving it behind has taken its toll.
But I’m super excited to share my adventure with you all in this blog.
