Q&A: Five Mins With Phil Orcher

By Milana, Eric, Angus & Felix

Students at Kegworth PS took part in an amazing art workshop with Phil Orcher, a contemporary Aboriginal artist from Goodooga, Central West NSW and proud Murrawarri and Gumbaynggirr man.

Press Gang reporters Milana, Eric, Angus & Felix sat down with Phil to find out more about his life as an artist.

How long have you been an artist?

“For as long as I can remember, but 2022 is when I decided to share my art. It was very scary to share it because I felt like everybody could see right into my mind and into my heart and see what I was thinking and feeling.”

When did you start making art?

“I used to draw a lot in class . I used to draw while the teachers were teaching so that I could remember. Instead of writing letters, I’d draw pictures to remind me what I was learning about.”
