SPORT: Tips & Tricks From Athletics Carnival Stars

By Jemma, Amanda & Misha

The OGPS Athletics Carnival took place on July 30th. Most of Border House got into zone, with all house captains happy with the results.

The final points have all been tallies and here they are. In 3rd, Pearce, with 588 points. In 2nd, Border, with 668 points. And, drum roll please, in 1st, Fraser, with 672 points.

Very few people made it to regionals, but some, like Lillian S in Year 4, made it through.

If you didn’t do as well as you’d hoped in the Athletics Carnival this year, then we’re here to help.

We interviewed some OGPS athletes and asked them to share some of their secrets to success.

“Running, you just need to pump your arms a lot and keep going.” -Sophia, Year 6, Border House Captain

Stevie, from Year 4, often wins the running races. “The trick is at the start you need to keep your pace and when everyone starts to slow down that’s when you come in front.” she told Press Gang.

Stevie also has a tip for the high jump. “When you run up you should bounce on your legs before you jump.” she says.

Try your hardest, you’ve just got to get into that zone”-Eliza, Year 6, Fraser House Captain

“Just try your best and don’t always expect you’ll be the best and that you’re going to win because just having fun and trying your hardest is the most important.” – Matilda, Year 6, Pearce House Captain
