We know that sports are good for kids. Playing sport can give you a healthier lifestyle and lets you enjoy being with your friends and peers. Playing a sport can also give children the opportunity to engage with their community.
But how does watching sport on TV impact us?
A study in the Perspective Public Health Journal 2020 found that kids who watched sports are more likely to be physically active.
Because of this, Press Gang decided to conduct our own survey and found out that six out of 10 children in the classroom watch sport and also play sport. So we estimate that 60 per cent of children watch sport and also play sport. This could show that watching sports can also make you more likely to play sports.
We also found that sports-themed movies and documentaries have become very popular. World Screen states that 12 per cent of all documentaries are sport documentaries. If there are 350 to 400 being made a year in Australia, that means that there are around 45 sports movies, shows and documentaries made a year in Australia.
From big events such as a grand final or World Cup, to sport documentaries and even sport-themed movies such as The Goat, watching sport inspires children every day.
