Swish! Try! Checkmate! These are the sounds of the Concord Cup; a tournament where a group of schools challenge each other to round robin matches across various games. Join us to discover what happens and who emerges victorious.
The Concord Cup is a tournament where year 4 and 5 students from seven different schools compete against one another in six different games: basketball, badminton, touch football, soccer, chess and netball. They play on the Wests Tigers luscious training fields in Concord.
Let’s listen to the thoughts of several players who participated in this exceptional event.
“The hardest team to verse and our fiercest rivals were probably Russell Lea.” said Marcus.
“I played Oztag and we came first place,” he said.
There was even a boy fortunate enough to get his Wests Tigers jersey autographed by head coach of the Wests Tigers and former Rugby League superstar Benji M.
The Concord Cup was really fun and since Benji turned up last year I just had to bring my jersey, and it turned out I actually got his signature!” said Wyclef.
Finally, when it was time to decide the winners, everyone crowded nearby to hear who had won. It was dead silent.
“And in first place,” called out the announcer “Five Dock Public School!”
Five Dock went wild! The students celebrated, the teachers applauded. The stands rumbled and shook like an earthquake! Everyone stood up and cheered for Five Dock.
“Winning the Concord Cup was a big improvement after losing to Russell Lea and coming next to last.” said Marcus.
Most of the teams came first in their sport, training during their own lunch and recess time.
After working hard and training relentlessly, Five Dock had earned the title of “2025 Concord Cup champions” and that’s undeniable.
