We’re Rolling: Press Gang Day 2025

By Eibhlinn & Pheobe

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and we’re rolling! This is something like what all of the students who went to Press Gang day this year heard. That’s right, we recorded at a TV studio.

Press Gang Day is a day when around 40 students participating in Press Gang come together from different schools and work together to solve a challenge based on media literacy. This year, students made a video about fact checking in a real TV Studio!

Press Gang Day this year was held at Western University, and students were split into 5 groups, and each group did one part of the video. Students also interviewed an expert panel about media literacy and fact checking. The panel included Journalist, Jan Fran, Professor, Asha Chand, Google News Initiative Trainer, Miguel D’Souza and ABC Chief of Staff, Reed Robinson.

We interviewed two students who went to Press Gang day. This is what they thought.

Charlie from year 5 said that “ the activities were really fun, we got to meet professional journalists, film in a TV studio, write questions, did a lot of factchecking, make new friends and most importantly, eat cake!”

Otis from year 5 said that “the most valuable thing was learning about media literacy and how it affects your writing and journalism and how it is everywhere”. He said that the best thing about Press Gang Day was “making new friends and recording in the TV studio.”

We ended the day with cake anddancing. Woo hoo:)
