Recently, I watched Spiderman: Across The Spiderverse! You may be wondering, is it worth it to see it? Or, if you’re a parent, is it appropriate? Well, don’t you fret! I will tell you the secrets of the universe! (Well, maybe just how it was).
I’d give this movie about 9 out of 10. Here’s why. See, when I watch movies, I normally have a hard time sitting still or keeping focus. Normally, it’s boring, and I end up picking up my iPad and completely ignoring it and forgetting it even existed. But, this was very different! If you watched the first one (Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse), then you’ll know it has a unique animation style, with bright pops of colour. I was absolutely enraptured, and could not tear my eyes away. It was amazing, and I tried to draw at one point, but I kept getting distracted by the movie.
(Spoilers for the first movie, by the way!) Secondly, I like how colours were used in it. In the universe that Gwen Stacy is from, her colours are cold and blue and purple. Her dads were warm and red and orange, showing how disconnected and unlike they are. When they hugged at one point, Gwen turned slightly warmer in colour.
As well, I liked how they showed panic and uncertainty and emotions. It felt very real. If you’ve been in *true* panic, and *real* life-threatening fear, then you’ll know that when you’re scared, you aren’t just scared. You’re terrified and confused and don’t know what to do and running through options in your head and you feel underwhelmed and overwhelmed at the same time. I like how it portrays fear as not just fear, but all these things.
Finally, is it appropriate? Who’s it for? I’d say anyone from 9 and up should watch this movie. There’s a bit of violence, but no explicit gore. The Spot might be a bit unsettling to look at, but that’s more your personal experiences. There was also talk about romance, but nothing that explicit, again. I’m 11, and I was fine with this movie for reference
All in all, you should definitely watch this if you can, and it was an awesome movie!
