Dance Your Heart Out, Be A Star!

By Eva, Christina & Romy

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to move and groove on a famous stage with the music playing and lights shining down on your face? This is what members of VPS dance troupe get to experience.

Originally, there was only a year 5 and 6 dance troupe, until Mrs. Tainsh organised for Years 1-4 to also join the RedEd dance program. Each troupe meets on a different day either before school or at lunch time, so they have lots of practice!

Layla, our dance teacher, who works really hard for RedEd says, “The benefits of dance troupes are that dance creates such a great sense of community.”

The troupe works together as a team to move in the same way and learn lots of new things about their friends. Layla goes over the choreography, and they follow. It’s exciting to learn new steps, but sometimes hard to copy the really hard moves, as Rose N, Year 4, commented, “I love to challenge myself with dance”.

The type of dance they do at the moment is jazz, which is like modern pop and it is heaps of energetic fun. They have performed at several amazing places such as the Opera House, which is the symbol of Sydney, and the amazing stage in Ryde for the Extreme Dance Competition. All teams did extremely well, and it was a great experience for everyone.

Dance matters to the troupe because they are like a family together.

Rose N described her feelings about the troupe.  “It gives me a wave of joy.”

Alice B agreed, adding, “I feel a spark of excitement on stage”.
