If you’re from Darlo, you’ll know, or have heard of the words ‘Willy was a Whale’.
Are you wondering why the Year 5s (including me) have been screeching this in the halls? Some Year 6s? Why it was played in assembly, even? Are you confused why they were the ones screeching it, and no one else?
Well, don’t panic. As an experienced Year 5, I’ll tell you what’s happening.
Some fateful day in August, during Posischools, there was… an assignment.
The Y5s have had ‘growth mindset’ as their goal, and the site suggested a song. You can guess what song. The song immediately caught on.
From the bad quality and frankly bizarre visuals, we were infatuated. This song? Comparable to a whole new religion.
With the sprouting of Ms Yvette’s class, (who leads and prepares every assembly, thank you for everything you do, Ms!) the Y5’s had a way to get their obsession in.
So, as students of Ms. Yvette, we BEGGED. We pleaded, we requested, we asked. And she kept on saying she needed to check if it was appropriate. We said we’d been even shown it at school, by Rod!
And then on, there was nothing.
Until.
Ms. Yvette was preparing the assembly…
And Willy, he would be on the big screen.
Cut forward that Friday afternoon. Henry stepped up in front of the stage and introduced the song…
AND WILLY WAS A WHALE ONCE AGAIN!
We screamed at the top of our lungs. Another win for Year 5.
And I played it on my guitar in front of the other Y5’s during class, so, yeah. Not important, but fun.
We emerge victorious, once again!
