On the 24th of March the entire leadership team went to the TikTok entertainment centre for Young Leaders Day.
We had to take a train from Granville all the way to Town Hall, and it was an over one hour ride. Can you believe that some schools travelled for five hours to get to the ICC? Some schools come from just down the road, but we had one thing in common… We were all young leaders.
Once we finished introducing ourselves, the host introduced Jimmy, the world champion pancake flipper! He even had ‘The Champion Flipper’ on his pan, and it was really cool. He flipped and flipped (though he might have not landed every single one he was still the champion.) He had this quote that one day he was watching people skateboard and he could not at all but there was one thing he could flip PANCAKES!
THen We got introduced to Catherine Laga’aia but the remake Moana overall it was still cool. She talked to us about her life and how she got into the remake. She even told us that during a scene she accidentally punched Maui in the face! (Dwyane Johnson – The Rock)
Next we got introduced to Jessica Yates, the TV presenter for Fox Sports, journalist and author. She told us about how leaders set the tone and how you first have to believe in yourself and others will then believe in you.
After lunch we were introduced to Nick Hudson. Have you ever done the Push Up Challenge? Well you’re in luck, Nick Hudson is the founder of the Push Up Challenge with over 200,000 participants just in the past few years.. Did you know that he is not completely human? He has cow tissue in his heart due to an open heart surgery performed on him when he was 35. Although a bit grim, he opened us a door to how mental health correlates to push ups.
Finally we met Jaqui Bell, the youngest person to run an ultra Marathon in all 7 continents. She ran 250km across the four major deserts. The windiest, snowiest, hottest, and driest deserts. She inspired many of us during the day, and inspired us to keep enduring and stay fit.
Overall, it was a tiring and exhausting day, but still our heads were filled with information and our hearts were filled with inspiration that we couldn’t wait to put into action in our own community.
