School News: Kegworth’s Turtley Awesome Mural
By Emily, Piper & Sadie

When you walk into Kegworth Public School Lords road gate there will now be an amazing colourful turtle to welcome you in!
The Turtle mural was a gift from the 2022 Year 6. It was painted by Sam Hall (who also painted our Kookaburras) and Zac Bennett- Brook an Indigenous man of Torres Strait Islander ancestry.
Zac Bennett- Brook explained that the turtle is an important animal in indigenous culture.
“The Turtle design is based around the flow and movement of water with each individual section representing groupings of people, that when put together represents our society as being multicultural,” he said.
We asked kids, teachers and parents around the school what they think of our new turtle.
Here’s what they had to say:
Hamish: “I like that it goes on the floor and the wall. “
Ale: “It’s pretty awesome.”
Elise: “I like it because it’s cool and colourful.”
Ms Volgaman: “It’s a really striking piece of art. I was impressed by how quickly they got it up there – it was done in a day. The colours really pop.”
