Why We Need To Think About Koala’s This September

By Isaac, Talia and Joab

Koalas are cute and fluffy and love sleeping in trees. But you might never see them again – because they are endangered.

We started researching how to save Koalas and learnt about Save the Koala Month which happens in September.

We wanted to know more so we interviewed Deborah Tabart, Chair of the Australian Koala Foundation. She told us she has been interested in koala conservation from a young age and throughout her life she has raised awareness for and helped koalas.

“I know very strongly is that if our organisation helps protect the koala forests of Australia with the koala, like an ambassador or a flagship, we are protecting 20 per cent of the Australian continent and millions of other species. You imagine how many insects and butterflies and birds are in those spots,” she says.

Save the Koala Month is about helping the Koalas. It is important to help raise money for Koalas because they are native animals to our amazing country, Australia.

You can help by adopting a Koala, planting a tree, making a donation and sharing information.

“Save the Koala Month is a time for people to really think, ‘How would I feel if Koalas disappeared? How would I feel if there were no beautiful koalas in the wild?'” says Deborah.

By helping these native animals, it will help our other animals because all animals are connected in the ecosystem.
