The Healthiest Lunches And Why It Matters
By Phillipa, Kristabel & Zainab

Are you aware that 86.5 per cent of students get lunch from the canteen?
Do you know what’s great for your health? Picking a nutritious lunch!
There are lots of healthy options in the HRPS canteen, including, salad boxes with cheese or tuna, sandwiches and wraps and homemade meals like Kifta and rice.
So, how can we encourage students to make healthier choices?
We interviewed HRPS Principal, Ms See, to find out.
“I think that ways that we can get kids to buy healthier options is we talk more about nutrition and health.

“We can talk more about the food pyramid or that diagram there so people can understand what you need to eat most, eat sometimes and eat least,” she told us.
The canteen is run by Jazzmen’s Catering
and has to comply with the Department of Education’s Healthy School Canteens Strategy.
This means that at least 75% of the menu should be everyday food and drinks.
Some schools have taken this further and completely banned sugar from their canteens.
“We should definitely make sure that no lollies are sold at the canteen unless they comply with the healthy eating guide,” said Ms See.
