All the most famous, renowned musicians started out as kids with a passion for music. And as kids at Kegworth, if we try now, we could become the modern Mozart or Beethoven, remembered for centuries. And you can start by joining Kegworth Music Program.
At Kegworth we are lucky enough to have six different music programs, each including diverse opportunities. The Strings, Band, Choir, Recorder, Ukelele and Kookaburra Choir (for K-2) make up our Kegworth Music Program.
When Kegworth hosts large and lively events, the musicians from these groups are called in to perform. Such events include The Autumn Fair, Music Night and Mother’s and Father’s Day. Once a week, each music group meet in the morning before school, to rehearse and discuss upcoming events.
I have played the cello for Senior Strings for over 4 years, and I truly love performing at these concerts. Each Monday Morning we meet in the Music Hall to practice for the major events we have the privilege to perform in.
For The Senior Strings Ensemble, the major event coming up is The Festival Of Instrumental Music (FOIM). This is a performance where all public primary schools all across the state, perform at the Opera House, playing pieces together. It’s a truly thrilling event, and if you are keen to know more about it, check out the articles under that topic.
Each year we have The Bow and Blow Tests, where students in Year 1 – Year 5 can try out the instruments for the Band and Strings Ensembles. This enables you to have a try at any instrument that sparks your interest.
For the case of Ukelele, Recorder or Choir, all you have to do to join is to talk to the conductor, and come to the lunchtime rehearsal that week.
Being a musician with any instrument takes practice and dedication, but for the incredible experiences, opportunities and of course sound, it is completely worth it to join an Ensemble.
