Five Things to do When You Are Bored

By Saskia

Ever been so bored out of your brain that you just can’t think straight? I certainly can’t deny it, I have.

It could be at dinner, when your parents are droning on about some technical issue they faced at work that day, or when you are waiting for the bus to arrive to take you to school. Either way, here are some ways you can toss that boredom out the window.

Read a book

It can sometimes be hard to find the time to read a book in the rush of our daily lives, so it could be a great opportunity to get devoured by a good book. Books are easily accessible, and you can carry them around with you in your school bag to read in any gaps you have between sessions.

Draw or doodle

It is incredible where your imagination leads you when you put pen to paper, whether it’s sketching, writing or simple doodling an abstract piece on your sheet. Drawing is a fantastic leisure activity to fill up time, and can become a beautiful memento to look and on in years to come.

Talk to the people around you

Even just out on the streets, you can always meet interesting people with incredible stories if you are open to having a chat. Each time we have a conversation, or make a new acquaintance, we weave invisible threads that run from people to people, creating connections all around the world. Of course, be mindful of stranger.  danger.

Go for a walk

Being out in nature is a perfect way to relax and escape the busyness that thrives in a city. We must acknowledge just how immensely lucky we are to live in an environment surrounded in thousands of lush, fertile trees and other plants.

Daydream

Although it may sound silly, daydreaming can be where we concoct some of our most fabulous ideas, and launch them into action. Never dismiss daydreaming as something only for very young children, as we all do it unconsciously, and it is a great way to come up with new concepts.

So next time you are bored out of your brain, remember some of these things and try them out.

Because the saying ‘boredom only comes to boring people’ isn’t entirely true, it should be; ‘only boring people let boredom get the better of them!’
