School Life: The Orange Grove Frank Green Trend

Frank Greens are water bottles that lots of people have. They come in lots of different colours like green, pink, purple, white and even clear. They also come in lots of different sizes so are suited for different people.

Our poll found that 55 percent of OGPS students have a Frank Green bottle.

They are popular because the keep water cold or hot for 12 hours and are very stylish at the same time.

Even OGPS teachers love their Frank Greens. Our research found that this trend started because everyone thinks the bottles are pretty.

You might think Frank Greens are just for humans, but you’re wrong – Frank Green has items that you can purchase for your pets such as collars and squeaky toys. 

Frank Green is an Australian company that was founded by Benjamin Young. We interviewed him on Zoom to find out more.

How did you come up with the idea of Frank Green?

When I was younger I used to go down to the beach and do a lot of things outdoors and I saw lots of pesky single use plastic everywhere and I really didn’t like it. So, when I got into my thirties, I wanted to do something that was going to protect our future and galvanize it against single use plastic. 

So that’s why I started Fank Green. I wanted to do something great and single use plastic is everywhere and we as a community and a group of committed citizens need to work together to make that happen.

Why did you name the business Frank Green?

My friends told me, if you’re going to start a business, make your business name reflect your purpose and your values.

Frank means be straightforward – in all of your business dealings and how you operate your business, be straightforward and honest. And Green is to look after the future generations and our planet.

There is also an expression,  Be Evergreen. Do something that you’ve never done before and if you work really hard at it, you’ll probably succeed. So that’s a second part of Frank Brain that I really like because it’s uplifting and it shows that always a solution to a problem. And if you work together as a team, it’s highly likely that you’ll get there in the end.

Why did you think that people would like your design and your water bottles?

I did a lot of consumer research and talked to people about what they wanted to see in a reusable product. I went and got all of our competitor products and I put them in a big long line and I got people tell me why they didn’t want to use those products or why they did want to use them.

So we had to come up with a product that ticked everyone’s boxes – it was all about consumer research and when you guys start your own business, one tip that I can leave you with is to make sure that you know everything about your customer.
