Book Review: Penny Draws A Class Trip, By Sara Shepard

Reviewed by Annika, Y4

Penny Draws A Class Trip is a funny and meaningful story starring Penny, a kind girl constantly learning more and more about her feelings.

In this book, Penny goes to New York City, as a gift from Billy J. Plumberry, a famous author who wrote the bestselling book, Bob The Potato!, and sets up a workshop for the students to write a book. The students are excited, as not only will they go to NYC, they also will get a new library with the book they will write in it!

Penny is excited to, until she realises her buddy is Violet, her ex – best friend! Everyday, while her new friends go have fun, and Rocco’s dad buys T-shirts, Violet makes excuses to go back to the hotel room. At first Penny has fun, but then ….

There are many lessons in this book, such as Steve and the puppets, Penny and Violet facing a big challenge and realising that sometimes things aren’t competitions. Sara Shepard manages to combine all those things into a brilliantly written story.

My favorite part of the book is when Penny and Rocco are asked to become the new leaders of the group, instead of Riley, and I liked that Riley learned more and more things as the story went on.

Penny Draws A Class Trip is the 4th book in the series. It is a hilarious story with important lessons for all sorts of people. Funny cartoon illustrations and easy to read writing complete this amazing story. Make sure you read it!
