Countdown to Carnival at FDPS

By Mabel, Naomi C, Zadie & Lily

A day of games, fun, and prizes. You’re thinking of the Year 6 Carnival day. The Year 6 Carnival Day will be held in Week 10, on the 25th September. FDPS holds this day annually. It is a day that the whole school looks forward to. 93%  of surveyed students are looking forward to this year’s big day.

Year 6 students love holding this day. “I’m so excited to finally be a part of the carnival” said Yasmina from 6E. We interviewed Mrs Edwards, one of the Year 6 teachers helping out with the event. “The Year 6 Carnival is a fun day that Year 6 students organise by themselves” she said. “They have to organise lots of different stalls, where kids can come and pay money to participate in activities, and buy little lolly bags or cakes and things like that.”

Year 6 gets into groups and each group creates a stall. They then choose a price for what they are selling, create Book Week posters for their stalls and then start preparing the props and prizes that they need. Some of the stalls that are happening this year include: a scavenger hunt, a photo booth, a chocolate tasting competition and a cupcake stall. The Year 6 students have to keep in mind the different age groups that will be competing in their activities and estimate how much money they will need to buy their prizes and other needs. The teachers are feeling the pressure as the Year 6 carnival day approaches.

Mrs Edwards says, “I want to do everything that I can to support the students to run it, but ultimately how good it’s going to be is up to the Year 6 students themselves.” So save up your pocket money and get ready for the best Year 6 carnival yet!
