The Press Gang Guide To T.O.M

By Aahil

The Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a long-term six-week challenge that requires students to work in groups.

There are four different subjects in the program: The Arts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Language  Literature and Social Sciences.

The Arts is about creative work, STEM  needs deep critical thinking and a great approach to students. Language Literature involves reviewing different types of texts and Social Sciences is about ethical and moral issues.

The teams must also participate in the secret Spontaneous Challenge on Tournament Day.

This challenge requires an ultra-fast change of ideas, and you need to think creatively and develop group cooperation skills. For Social Sciences, you can give your ideas to help with moral and ethical issues.

Leo, a FDPS TOM member, said that TOM was a great experience and he would definitely do it in high school. “The Tournament of Minds was challenging and the team had a really good time!,” he said.

The Tournament of the Minds is a great way to challenge your mind, and I think you should try it for yourself!
