Sydney Writers Festival Inspiring Day For Students

By Aizah, Ghazwa, Nargis & Elham

Have you ever been to Sydney Writers Festival? It’s a festival that celebrates authors and illustrators. Authors can share their stories and tell people how they got to where they are.

On the 21st May, 62 students from Granville South Public School attended the festival at Sydney Town Hall.

We saw six authors and six illustrators, including; Mick Elliot author of Uranus FC, Dav Pilkey author of the Dog Man books and Yxavel Magno Diño author of the Serpent Rider, who told us about Filipino Mythology.

One of the biggest highlights was when there were two gigantic soccer balls in the crowd and we played with them.

The best bit was when Dav Pilkey came out at the end and surprised everybody.

We interviewed students and teachers about the writers’ festival. Here are some of the things they said:

“My favourite part was sitting at the top and hanging out with my friends and watching different writers, “ said Kourash.

“My favourite part was hearing about their life stories,” said Bilal.

“I enjoyed hearing about the experiences of the different authors and where they get their inspiration and ideas from,” said Ms Alvaro.

She continued, “my favourite author was the last one on stage, Dav Pilkey. His performance was very engaging.”

It was a really interesting, fun and engaging day.
