Have you ever heard of a Micro Forest?
Press Gang recently had the opportunity to chat with Deputy Mayor, Philippa Scott, to learn more about the Inner West Council’s current initiatives and programs, including the Inner West trial of Micro Forests.
The Deputy Mayor explained that a Micro Forest is a group of trees planted closely together on a small block of land. Micro Forests mean that you can increase the tree canopy coverage, help to reduce climate emissions and cool the city without needing a large block of land.
The first Micro Forest will be planted will be near the new skate park on The Bay Run.
Philippa Scott said: “We had to remove some trees in order to put the skate park in, so we are sort of giving back, we take, we give”.
In my opinion, the Inner West trial to micro forests sounds like a pretty cool idea.
