The new 2023 Barbie movie, released on the 20th of July, has been getting fans around the world excited with around 1.35 billion tickets purchased worldwide.
However, some countries like Vietnam, Kuwait, Lebanon and Algeria have blurred a certain scene due to it featuring a map that shows the nine-dash line.
This is a line in the South China Sea on which one side is a fraction of the sea that China has claimed to be theirs. China recognised the ‘nine-dash line’ on the Real World Map in Weird Barbie’s house, they claim the nine-dash line belongs to them while Vietnam and the Philippines have different opinions.
This may not sound like a big deal but to be honest it can change a lot. One reason this can change is because of all the controversy between China, Vietnam and The Philippines when the movie came out.
The CEO of Warner Bros says “ The map in Barbie Land is a child-like crayon drawing. The doodles depict Barbie’s make-believe journey from Barbie Land to the ‘real world.’ It was not intended to make any type of statement”
Overall I give this movie 10 out of 10 stars because of its amazing actors including Australian legend Margot Robbie who starred in Peter Rabbit playing the voice of Flopsy Rabbit and played the main role, Barbie. Another star, Ryan Gosling played the star role in Say Cheese or Die and did an excellent job for Ken and not forgetting main director Greta Gerwig.
