INTERVIEW: GWPS Press Gang Grill Mayor Lisa Lake

Well, it’s a magnificent woman named Lisa Lake, was elected as Mayor on January 12, 2022.
You have probably heard of her since she puts tons of effort into our society to make our lives easier.
She visited the GWPS Newsroom earlier this term to answer our questions.
What’s it like being the Mayor?
It’s very busy, but it’s also lots of fun because I get to meet interesting people and do things I’ve never done before
What is your favourite thing about being the Mayor?
There are two. One good thing is when you have a good idea and people on the council agree and get it done.
It can be little things like a seat at a bus stop, but also big things, like the Merrylands Civic Square.
The other thing that I really enjoy doing is citizenship ceremonies. Seeing the people from all over the world become Australian.
Is it hard to be the Mayor?
Yes, it’s very hard. Sometimes you have to work with people that disagree with each other and you’ve got to try and find a solution that is fair to everyone. But having said that, it’s also very rewarding. Like all hard things it’s worth doing.
