The Seven Natural Wonders of the World

By Saskia

Have you ever seen one of the Natural Wonders of the World? A place renowned for its breathtaking beauty, unforgettable uniqueness or spectacular size. In total, there are seven natural wonders of the world, but that is not to say that other landmarks are not special, such as Niagara Falls, Uluru or The Amazon Rainforest. However, here are the the official seven we decide are the most picturesque of all.

Mount Everest

This mountain is one of the most eye-catching places you will ever see. Located in Nepal, China and Tibet, this high peak is found in the Himalayan Mountain region. The tallest mountain, reaching 8,848.86 above sea level, one of the trickiest and most dangerous cliff to climb. Despite this, many adventurous people have completed their journey and made it to the summit of this imposing mountain.

The Grand Canyon

Another incredible landmark, found in Arizona, United States. This canyon was formed of billions of years, from natural rock erosion on the Colorado River. Many tourists visit this place each year, to hike up its rockface or simply gaze down upon the magnificent view.

Paricutin Volcano

The Paricutin Volcano is one of the most wondrous volcanos in the world. It’s cone has only properly existed since 1943, when it first began its eruptions in Mexico. These eruptions continued for 9 years, leaving it temporarily untouched by humans. Now, it is open to the public, and after a long while of recoverment, can be properly inspected and visited.

Victoria Falls

This waterfall is an evident choice for a natural wonder. With its dazzling views and sparkling waters, it is almost as if it is magnetic to tourists. Victoria Falls is also the largest waterfall, however not the tallest or widest, only with its combined height and depth. If you ever feel adventurous, Victoria Falls is a great spot to vacate in in Southern Africa!

The Harbour of Rio De Janeiro

In the Southeast of Brazil, this harbour is commonly known as a natural wonder of the world. It is special for many reasons, however the most significant being its size. It is one of the largest natural bays, and is a beautiful aspect to the Brazilian coast.

The Northern Lights

These dazzling light formations in the Arctic Circle, known as the Aurora Borealis, are eye-catching to everyone. These lights usually show shades of blue, green and purple, dancing in the night sky. This natural phenomenon is best sighted from Iceland, Greenland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland and the US state of Alaska.

The Great Barrier Reef

As we live in Australia, this one is probably the most well known. The Great Barrier Reef is known for its exotic animals, distinct wildlife and sparkling waters. Many tourists travel here to go scuba diving, snorkelling or going reef walking. Unfortunately, the coral down in this underwater spectacle has suffered much bleaching due to global warming (sea warming). Lets unite to save this incredible world wonder!

Although all these places are phenomenal, and deserve to be recognised under this title, many are losing their specialty. We must work together to allow these landmarks to keep thriving for many generations to come.
