The Science of Sunscreen

By Bahara

According to CancerCouncil.gov.au everyone needs sunscreen. But have you ever wondered how sunscreen works? Sunscreen works by absorbing the sun’s rays. It’s like a creamy sponge on your face – a big sponge sucking up the sun’s rays instead of water.

But, why do people need sunscreen? Sunscreen protects you from any sunburns and helps you age more slowly. Good thing for sunscreen right? Our skin is actually at risk of aging but sunscreen prevents the horrible aging process on our precious faces. It can also prevent any skin cancer.

In the 1920s, a guy named Milton Blake was getting sunburn after sunburn. But then… He discovered something magnificent. Something so amazing! It was sunscreen! He was so amazed by his wonder creation, that he decided to sell it at his chemist! That’s how sunscreen was made.

Well now we know all about sunscreen, I think we should all start applying it!
