Gymnastics is a sport that around 25% of the world participates in. It is hard but very fun. Doing it can take lots of courage and determination but there is a great prize at the end. Looking back on all the amazing things you’ve done.
Gymnastics is a fun sport
It is a great sport and it is fun to do. This is because you can learn to split, learn to flip and learn to do loads of other cool skills. In different types of gymnastics, you learn different things specific to what you need for that type of gymnastics. Lots of people do it, and Bonnie from year 5 said that ‘when I was a little kid, I just really, really liked it and my mum got me into it and then I’ve loved it since then.’
There are lots of different types of gymnastics
There is rhythmic, artistic, team and trampoline gymnastics, just to name a few. There are types for boys and girls, you can do it when you are older or younger and you can do easier or harder gymnastics. Charlie from Year 5 told us that she does acrobatic gymnastics.
Gymnastics is a tough sport
Although gymnastics seems easy, it can be very hard, so if you want to be a good gymnast, you have to be determined. If you have noticed, when gymnasts are doing their routines, they have a look of concentration on their faces. Charlie from year 5 stated that when she does gymnastics, she likes being pushed to her limits so she can do skills.
Gymnastics is an old sport
With some people believing that it started in Ancient Greece. At the start, there were fewer types of gymnastics, and only men were allowed to compete. It was a lot less complicated than it is now.
Gymnastics has many different apparatuses
In different types of gymnastics, there are different apparatuses. In Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) there is the beam, bars, vault and floor. In Rhythmic Gymnastics, gymnasts perform on the floor with things that they hold, such as a ball, a ribbon, a hula hoop or a club. Bonnie from year 5 stated that on the floor, she likes doing flips.
