
Five Inclusive Playgrounds Coming To The Inner West

Have you ever been to a Livvi’s Place playground? There is one in Drummoyne, if you haven’t been go check it out, there are loads of big slides and roundabouts that can seat wheelchairs.
The Inner West Council wants to make sure that all kids in the Inner West have somewhere to play, so they are going to build more inclusive playgrounds.
Here’s what Deputy Philippa Scott told the Kegworth Times: “The Inner West Council will build five more inclusive playgrounds across the Inner West Council area.
“We’ve agreed that there should be one in every council ward, so there will be one for Marrickville, one for Ashfield, one in Balmain, one in Leichhardt, and one in Stanmore.” Keep reading
The Inner West Is Getting a Micro Forest

Press Gang recently had the opportunity to chat with Deputy Mayor, Philippa Scott, to learn more about the Inner West Council’s current initiatives and programs, including the Inner West trial of Micro Forests.
The Deputy Mayor explained that a Micro Forest is a group of trees planted closely together on a small block of land. Micro Forests mean that you can increase the tree canopy coverage, help to reduce climate emissions and cool the city without needing a large block of land.
The first Micro Forest will be planted will be near the new skate park on The Bay Run. Keep reading.
Local News: The Inner West’s New Plan To Tackle Food Waste

Have you ever looked in the rubbish bins and seen the astonishing amount of food waste inside?
Food waste is a huge problem in Australia. Reducing food waste could save the average family up to 3,800 dollars per year. That’s a lot of money! Research by the “fight food waste cooperative research centre” has identified that nearly 300 kilograms of food is wasted in Australia per person.
A couple of weeks ago, we went on an interview with Inner West Deputy Mayor, Phillipa Scott, to ask a few questions about different problems in Australia. I asked about food waste.
“When we did an audit of our garbage bins we were really surprised to see exactly how much of it was food waste. We know that when food waste goes into landfill it contributes to emissions that go into the air and pollute the atmosphere,” she said. Keep reading.
