Penny’s Big Moment At The Women’s World Cup
Interview by Saskia & Olivia
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is underway and lots of Press Gang reporters have been lucky enough to attend games at Stadium Australia. But one very lucky Kegworth kid got to experience the thrill of walking onto the pitch.
Penny, from Year 6, plays for the Leichhardt Saints Under 12 Girls and had the honour of delivering the match ball onto the field ahead of the France vs Jamaica game.
“It was very exciting and a little bit scary but I enjoyed it for the most part,” she told Press Gang News.

Penny was able to speak to a couple of players before the game, including Khadijah Shaw, a forward/striker for Jamaica.
Penny might have been nervous, but she handled the big moment with style.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “I think I’m very lucky.”
If you missed Penny’s big moment, you’ll have another chance on Friday night when England play Denmark, Max from Kegworth is due to carry the ball on to the pitch!
