In this article, we will be talking about what apps are appropriate for which ages, these apps include: TikTok, Youtube, Snapchat and Discord!
Youtube
Youtube is an app where you can watch a big variety of videos, and it is a pretty good game for entertainment. It also has a button called “Shorts” where you can watch short little videos which is pretty much like TikTok in some ways. Except that’s not all to YouTube, it can have some pretty scary or inappropriate videos. But you can download Youtube Kids which have ONLY appropriate videos on it.
But if we are talking about YouTube then I think this would be for ages 8+ without an adult watching with you.
Tiktok
TikTok is an app where you can watch a wide variety of things on certain topics like edits, dance, memes and more.
TikTok is popular because of the trends, not only that but it made the Grimace trend which is basically a horror meme about a McDonald’s birthday drink and if you drink it you die or go crazy, I know it’s weird.
But here is a piece of advice: do NOT film yourself on TikTok, it will track your location and can even see what position you’re in! When you scroll anything can come up so if something inappropriate comes up tell your guardian or trusted adults so they can help you out.
Overall we think that you should be at least 14+.
Snapchat
Snapchat is a popular messaging app that lets users exchange pictures and videos (called snaps) that are meant to disappear one day after the people you sent it to view it.
But in this app, there are also crazy filters, video and photo options and even Snapchat AI bots. When you sign up you have to put in your age and it’s quite easy for kids to sign up.
In my opinion, Snapchat is okay for teens 16 and up, mainly because of the exposure to age-inappropriate content and the marketing ploys, such as quizzes, that collect data.
Discord
Discord is an app where you can text people, use voice chat and send pictures.
Discord has a bunch of random people and sometimes you may not know who you’re talking to. And you can also meet a lot of creepy, crazy people on it. And you are able to send inappropriate pictures and swear on it without it blurring out.
So overall I think that it is appropriate for 13+
