The School Life team interviewed Mr Hall-Watson and found out about his secret talent – acting in commercials, tv shows and movies you might even know about!
What was it like working as an actor?
It was always exciting quite often, whether it was a commercial or a TV show or a film, it was always that wonderful feeling of making something new.
And it was also fun to pretend, pretending is what acting really is, you’re pretending. And I got a lot of enjoyment out of that.
How long was your acting career?
I started acting in 1992. It was when I first left university. I stopped professionally acting when I started teaching. And that would’ve been around about 2008, 2009.
I think my very first job was on home and away. I was a barman and I had what was called a ‘50 worder’.
That meant you were speaking up to 50 words. I think I had 38 words to be honest. And that was great fun
What are three important things you learned while acting?
One is self-confidence. You have to believe in yourself. Also, another thing that you have to do is be dedicated to the job.
And you’ve probably heard me say, ‘be in the moment’. What that means for acting is that as soon as they say action, or the show begins, you are in character. You’re not distracted, you’re not pretending, you’re not waving to the audience. You’re there in that role.
