I believe that rather than wasting time on their phones, people should read more books.
To begin with, reading expands your vocabulary and understanding of words. Reading can also help you with new words and give you an understanding of hard words with the way they are used in context.
Reading can also open up your mind and give you a wider range of knowledge. Studies have shown that reading helps with academic and emotional learning. When a person is reading, they are learning about social behaviour through the characters met and conflicts observed.
Let’s look at some numbers.
Studies have shown that even reading for just six minutes a day reduces stress by 68 per cent.
Reading for just 20 minutes a day means you have read around 1,800,000 words in a year.
Kids who read 1,000,000 words a year are in the top two per cent of reading achievements.
Kids also learn 4,000 to 12,000 through reading.
Unfortunately, despite all this, one out of every five school-aged students does not read at home
Experts know it, teachers know it, we all know it… reading offers one of the best pathways for brain development. Through books, we get unlimited access to new worlds and experiences; reading widely is one of the most adventurous things a person can do.
No matter what you’re interested in, there is a story to spark your curiosity. Keep trying. You will find that book, and you will love it.
