Do We Need Bike Shelters? Two Thirds Say Yes

By Yash, John & Aston

Bike Riding is a fun activity to do. People have been riding bikes for over 200 years. In fact, in Australia the first bike was ridden in 1817. Since then we have come a long way and our bikes are very different and very expensive.

Our Stage 3 survey found that 22 per cent of students ride their bikes to school. Students bike to school for lots of reasons. It reduces pollution, it’s good exercise and it’s fun.

Lucca W said “ I was first introduced to bikes and went to different tracks and it was really good.”

Some PPS teachers also enjoy biking. “I like it because doing that kind of exercise is like my mindfulness time – I can go out and have a bit of a break. But I also enjoy racing and feeling some kind of success and self-improvement from that,” said Mr Webb.

There are bike racks at our school, however, our research found that 66 per cent of students would ride to school more often if there were bike shelters.

Jock T, who has been riding bikes since he was little, says that bike shelters are necessary so his chain won’t get rusty, and his bike is safe from the weather.

Charlie also says he would ride to school more if there were bike shelters. “I feel that my bike would be safer,” he said.
