Hilltop PS Walk Safely to School Day!
By Muhammad & Evanna

It’s 8.30 In the morning and Hilltop is crowded! There is no parking, cars are coming from left and right, kids are getting dropped off in the middle of the road, kids are running to the footpath. It is chaos!
People dropping their kids off in the middle of the road could lead to serious problems. “It’s extremely dangerous,” said Deputy Principal, Mrs Baddour.
“I don’t like to see it as I know how dangerous it can be. We don’t want to put any of our children or community members in danger.”
Hilltop has a special day to promote ways to get to school safely – Walk Safely To School Day.
Walk Safely To School Day took place on Friday the 10th May. The teachers gave out tattoos to motivate and encourage students to stay safe when walking to and from school.
“The initiative is built around road safety and giving parents or carers an opportunity to talk to their children about being safe around the roads,” Mrs Baddour explained.
Walk Safely To School Day also reinforces the importance of exercise. “We know that if we are active in the morning, it helps get the brain ready for learning,” Mrs Baddour told Press Gang.
Mrs Baddour’s Walk To School Safely Tips
1. Plan your route
2. Be alert and pay attention around roads
3. When you’re crossing the zebra crossing wait for Belinda, our lollipop lady. She will let you know when it is safe to cross.
